My feelings are real feelings My love real love Summer of love Yes it was Rolling on the garden green You and me What a team Do you know what I mean The way things are Should always be We might even have to live in a tree We've got so much in common baby Maybe someday we will marry There's so much love in the world You can see it on your TV screen In South Africa El Salvador or Washington DC Democrats Republicans Libertarians too It's the summer of love '69, '87, '82

Sunride 04:07
How many bombs does it take To set a country free And which politician Will choose the next ememy And to make us believe there's a reason to fight And to make us believe that fighting is right So we go out and kill People just like you and me Never realizing That government is the real enemy Cause without governmental boundaries There'll be no enemy But one whole earth society
3.
S.A.N.D. 04:08
Man and civilization Is leading to total destruction Making bombs from the earth Man can't look into his mind For only sorrow he will find And he knows, it was his choice His choice to live a lie His choice to never try To seek truth and peace of mind To take a stand So he began To count pebbles in the sand

Gaze 05:54
Gazing at the fire Flickering on my face Like seasons upon the earth Finding their place Blaze on electric fire On into my mind Warm these places In which you May find
5.
I've seen you around Every dancehall, every town Can't you remember my face It's not familiar ground this place You tell me that I'm here And tonight we'll last the whole year And we'll take this dance home To the sunrise dome Dance until the break of dawn It's a breakdown Keep it going all night long Hold your partner with this song Livin' in times that might not last Like the future, like the past Just move yourself There's a sun that rises That ain't no shit And I want to be around To see it
6.
There soon may be a killing Of all forms of life The superpowers put mankind On the edge of a knife They spend so much money On weapons that don't even talk How can you sit back and watch There must be a stop! We are very short of time People are getting scared The things man do for a dime Is the nightmare The starving will be at your front door And radiation in your backyard There will be no place to hide Cause the sun will inflict scars!

Fake 03:14
I love fake things Gold and diamond rings The things that I wear Golden fur off a grizzly bear And all the things I want Are deep down inside These things are not real I'm taking a ride I'm an adult And I'm a little boy These things are but toys For my gentle mind I love fake things Money and all the glorious things The things that I eat Chocolate, paté and little kids' feet And all the things I want Are deep down inside These things are not real I'm taking a ride I'm an adult And I'm a little boy These things are but toys For my gentle mind

Long forgotten summer In a long forgotten past Of adults who have problems And whose lives will never last Sold out all their values For three piece suits and ties Sold out all their values For ignorance and lies Present, past, Or future tense Life is a white Picket fence That guards the memories Of an adult's mind Memories of summers past Are so sublime I've got the earth under my feet There are no words to spell defeat There is no time to have or lend Because my summers will never end

Papa Greg 04:15
Papa Greg won't take it no more He's grown tired of government man He's grown tired of the holy plan Papa Greg does not like it here Machinery man creates, destroys Where woman gives birth to goverment toys Papa Greg can see through this mess Flying by day, he sees the light Flying by day, flying by night Papa Greg is finding it hard to breathe As man cuts down all the trees And replaces them with smokestacks Higher are these!

Pave The Way 05:53
Look over yonder What do you see I see cities, factories I feel a pull, deep inside Towards the sun, to the sky I feel the earth under my feet I can hear my heart beat Now I know why I'm alive And I know that we will survive

The glistening light rises over the mountaintop Sparkling on the wet morning grass It's times like these when you make your wish For nuclear arms to be abolished I've seen mountains burst with money and power But now the tractors strip the land Your actions are meaningless in this nuclear tide Except for an action from inside I am alone, so it seems But the sun still shines in my dreams Many have packed their bags and gone away To fight a war, to obey All this shooting and killing for our country When our country is just earth and sea Power and profit is the reason for war It's the reason people die So high on their fucking pride So, have you ever seen the sunrise I don't want a black sun I watch humanity run What's this Top Gun Jah People must be as one

Sweet Dreams 05:19
I'm just a sittin' here smokin' da kine weed I've got all the lovin' in the world I need I'm gettin' real hungry cuz I'm gettin' real high Oh lord, a squirrel musta stole my blueberry pie And the Earth turns and blows as I skate to the sea Lookin' for the likes of Neptune and me The sky is blue like the majestic sea And I think the sun's got the best of me A fellow comes to me, calls himself Jack He says he's got a bullethole in his back "Man, I can't take this violence no more." And the waves keep rollin' on into the shore So me and Jack surf all day Until the sun glooms red and fades away Mother Nature wants me to stay and play Don't worry, I'll be back one day Somewhere sometime I close my eyes And I'm diggin' the natural disguise Because while the clock still moves its tired hands I drift off into to never-never land

Madonna takes the stage She needs to sing so bad Her inspiration is money Her reason to live is money Look at all the homeless Living on skid row Look at Madonna the homeowner Living off her fans' dough Living and dying doesn't make sense When I smell Madonna's incense A smell of greed and ignorance I must fight her, hence

What the government says Is a lie They try to label What should be life They organize And catagorize They control Control, destroy That clock on the wall just sits I'd like to smash it to bits Please, Mr. Businessman go away Please let me live my own way Politicians can't set me free Their stupid games, leave me be I see the time in their eyes Hands of a clock formed by their lies That clock on the wall just sits I'd like to smash it to bits Please, Mr. Businessman go away Please let me live my own way

What is life to you It means nothing You destroy, you kill Without a second thought Why do you chop down that tree Why do you kill that little girl I want to be where the sun always shines And where the wind blows through my hair Well down the way from man's violent path If there's a place, well I'll be there. There must be a place There must be a place where we can run There must be a place There must be a place under the sun

What has he done to the balance of nature The rainbow is broken in the eyes of time And in the eyes of the Hopi and Navajo And others oppressed from birth They see the streetlights Instead of the stars above And tears fall on the concrete-covered earth Earth The Sun The Stars The Sky The Great Spirit didn't want the land Dug up to create nuclear weapons And neither did we

about

Start from the 10. Head south on Bundy, past the Santa Monica Airport and the “Please Fly Quietly” signs stuck in the chain link fence. Bundy merges with Centinela. Keep going straight. Past the community garden. Turn left at Mrs. Gooch’s. Skip the alley and turn right. About halfway down the street is James’ parents’ house. It’s a modest one-story building with a front lawn, three bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room, and, most importantly, a detached garage.

Across the backyard is the rectangular-shaped garage. Inside you’ll find a drum set, a 1X12 Barcus-Berry amplifier meant for acoustic bass, and a 2X10 Roland guitar amp. Meat Puppets and Minutemen promo posters are taped to the walls. There’s an attempt at soundproofing. Thin sun rays appear through gaps in the aging garage door.

This is where Treacherous Jaywalkers practiced. At first, five days a week after school. Sometimes, friends would come over to listen. Sometimes the neighbors would complain about the noise. When we had songs ready, Steve Tounsand would lug in his 4-track cassette recorder and set up microphones.

I have several versions of Fun on cassette. All have different track sequences. One label reads, “Recorded in 8 Hours June 18 By Steve, Overdubbed and mixed in 6 hrs June 19-20.” I believe the June 1987 session was our original intention. The two extra dates were tacked on just prior to release. By that time we’d already recorded our SST debut, Sunrise.

I have one photo of us in the garage. There’s a microphone in front of my bass amp. I’m wearing a Bad Brains t-shirt and a turned-up baseball cap with “P.J.D.” scrawled in black sharpie. Quinn’s wearing a Grateful Dead shirt and a flannel tied around his waist. James is wearing shorts with Vans hi-tops and standing in front of the Meat Puppets one-sheet. Joel Bremson, Sean Wheatley, Roy Miyake, and someone who’s name I can’t remember are sitting along the wall. The back of someone’s head can be seen at the bottom of the image.

That garage contained lots of music. There’s probably a car parked in it now. Or maybe it hosts another band comprised of teenagers, playing their own songs, in their own style, really, really loud.
